Time for Parents and Participants
Saturday Night Out is a program at Eagle Mount that has direct benefits
for both participants and their parents /caregivers. By providing
an opportunity for children with disabilities to spend one evening
a month at Eagle Mount, the Saturday Night Out (SNO) program provides
participants a unique opportunity for social interaction as well as
respite time for the participant’s family.
SNO is the first Eagle Mount program structured with a key objective of giving parents enough time off to actually go to a movie, out to eat or as one mom recently disclosed “just being able to have one-on-one time with our older son.” A second, equally valuable benefit of the SNO program is the opportunity for participants to have lots of social interaction. Board games, dancing, arts and crafts projects, and other activities ensure participants interact with each other and with volunteers throughout the evening. The size of each Saturday Night Out session is limited to 10 participants.
Volunteers play a critical role in the success of the Saturday Night Out program. We strive for a one-on-one ratio of volunteers to participants. Many of the volunteers for SNO are high school and college students, frequently groups of students from service organizations or clubs, promoting exciting and fun peer to peer interactions.
